About the job

CORAM

Coram Family and Parenting practitioner - Systemic Psychotherapist / Clinical Psychologist

Fixed Term Contract until August 2024

21-35 hrs per week (flexible working possible)

Coram Parenting and Creative Therapies Team offers art and music therapy, therapeutic parenting, clinical psychology and family therapy to children in schools, at home (in person and online) and at our dedicated creative therapies building, the Pears Pavilion, on the Coram Campus, next to Coram fields. We have an exciting opportunity to join us in developing and delivering a creative approach to working with children and families with an aim to reduce parental conflict. The post holder will be working closely with the Clinical Psychologist (Head of Service) and the lead Music therapist and Infant Mental Health Practitioner, to devise and implement creative ways of developing attunement, communication and building stronger relationships within families. We apply positive and creative evidence based psychological approaches in our work. This project would suit someone who likes to create new initiatives, work with parents, children and schools and is flexible and visionary in approach. There may be opportunity to continue this work if interventions are successful.

There will also be opportunity to work with adoptive and connected carer families. We are a trauma-informed service, and are developing our Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) approach in our work. We have expertise in working with children with neuro-diversity and children with special educational needs. The team have a strong track record in developing therapeutic interventions, including recently Harmony and Harmony Plus, music therapy and narrative therapy based multi-family groups for younger children who are adopted or subjects of a special guardianship order. We are developing good partnerships with universities - Newcastle University and The Institute of Contemporary Music and Performance and are piloting research based creative interventions. We work within very diverse communities and we consciously challenge ourselves and our practice, seeking at all times to develop opportunities for anti-racist practice. We want to reflect the communities we serve and we welcome applications from therapists who come from global majority communities.

About The Role

We are seeking a therapist who is comfortable working with parents and families in a creative MDT and to help lead on our Reducing Parental Conflict Interventions. There will also be opportunity to carry out multi-disciplinary assessments, to offer family interventions under the Adoption Support Fund, and to support the wider work of the team.

The successful candidate will be an experienced clinical psychologist or systemic psychotherapist with a background in CAMHS, schools work, and/or a social care service. They will have an interest in action-based and creative practices as well as ‘talking therapies’. Experience of running multi-family groups would be an advantage. We would ideally like the post holder to be able to start ASAP to help develop this exciting project.

If you wish to discuss the role further, please contact Dr Anna Harris, Clinical Psychologist/Head of Service.

Closing date: 30th May 2023.

Interviews: 5th / 6th June 2023
