1753 — Dugald Stewart was born. Stewart popularized the Scottish school of faculty psychology, which argued for a divine source of knowledge and human mental abilities.
1919 — John B. Watson's book Psychology, From the Standpoint of a Behaviorist was published.
1950 — The National Institute on Neurological Disease and Blindness began operation. This agency is now called the National Institute on Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
1950 — Nathan W. Ackerman and Raymond Sobel's article "Family Diagnosis: An Approach to the Pre-School Child" was published in the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry. This work has been cited as the first article in the field of family therapy.
1972 — The organizational meeting of the group that would become APA Division 35 (Psychology of Women) was held. The first president was Elizabeth Douvan.
1974 — Daryl Bem and Andrea Allen's article "On Predicting Some of the People Some of the Time: The Search for Cross-Situational Consistencies in Behavior" was published in Psychological Review.
